Partnering Questions
Q: Why would we consider partnering?
A: Partnering principles and practices are growing in popularity for many reasons. The primary reasons are reduced liabilities and increased profits. Problems cost money, period. Partnering for profit means not only does your bottom line increase; the relationships that are created through the partnering process are solid, reliable and focused on the partnership, not the personalities.
Q: We already know how to design and build, so why would we need partnering?
A: No design/build project is perfect. Partnering brings all the stakeholders together to poke holes in the project before it begins. The facilitator engages stakeholders to present concerns and potential delays in the critical path ahead of time. Most, if not all, issues are resolved and the potential for value-engineering opportunities are uncovered as well.
Q: What makes you different from other partnering facilitators?
A: We have experience across several industries, are well-respected in our current relationships and can provide you with value-added services that most other firms lack - such as professional coaching.
Q: Is Partnering Really Necessary/ When Is Partnering Useful?
A: The American Institute Of Architects, the Association Of General Contractors and the American Consulting Engineers Council all endorse Partnering. Some federal, state and city agencies include Partnering as part of the standard requirements in bid package on large projects. Several state legislatures are considering requiring Partnering as a part of any new projects. Clearly, then, many people think Partnering is worthwhile.
Q: What are the steps to creating a Partnering Workshop?
A: The steps are simple. They start with a phone call to discuss your needs and set a date. The organization either provides a meeting room or the facilitator contracts with a nearby venue. Next, the facilitator will ask for a list of identified issues and concerns. The facilitator will contact the other stakeholders for more information if necessary. The partnering teams, departments or organizations research issues and prepare data to present at the partnering workshop. The facilitator customizes the workshops based on the above information and delivers the workshop.
